HOLE-BY-HOLE DESCRIPTION

Hole 1: Par 5, 503 Yards
One of the most famous starting holes in all of golf, the tee on No.1 is perched nearly 100 feet above the fairway, while the green sits some 503 Yards away.

Hole 2: Par 4, 463 Yards
In 1990, the PGA of America designated the hole as the toughest No.2 hole in America.

Hole 3: Par 4, 434 Yards
The green complex on No.3 is one of course architect George Thomas' finest.

Hole 4: Par 3, 236 Yards
Ben Hogan called No. 4 the greatest par-3 in America. When ask why, he responded, "options".

Hole 5: Par 4, 434 Yards
The drive is framed by tall eucalyptus trees on the left and out-of-bounds on the right, and to complicate matters, the approach shot is almost always played from a slight sidehill lie.

Hole 6: Par 3, 199 Yards
Perhaps the most memorable hole at Riviera, the bunker is equidistant from the left and right sides, but is closer to the back fringe than the front.

Hole 7: Par 4, 408 Yards
The player who cuts the hole's natural turn to the right risks the bunker and out-of bounds, with a relatively shorted second shot to the green. The more conservative tee shot to the left, which avoids the right side dangers, leaves a longer shot with more greenside obstacles.

Hole 8: Par 4, 433 Yards
Trees are the hazard of choice on No.8. A fade or slice off the tee is demanded, but determining which club to use is a challenge.

Hole 9: Par 4, 458 Yards
Playing straight uphill, the design of the drive is one of the most difficult at Riviera, making it virtually impossible to reach the green from the fairway bunkers.

Hole 10: Par 4, 315 Yards
Considered one of the finest par 4 holes in the world, the No.10 at Riviera was called one of the "greatest 18 holes in major championship golf" by Jack Nicklaus.

Hole 11: Par 5, 564 Yards
The difficulty of No.11 begins with the tee shot which looks straight down a chute of tall eucalyptus trees. The fairway is wider than it appears as the overhanging tree limbs give the hole a tunnel effect from tee to green.

Hole 12: Par 4, 479 Yards
No. 12 is a beautiful 410-yard par 4, which Tom Kite describes as "a really strong par 4 that starts off with an awkward tee shot that almost requires a fade, or at least a straight ball".

Hole 13: Par 4, 459 Yards
Perhaps no hole requires more power, accuracy or mental strength than No.13.

Hole 14: Par 3, 176 Yards
Often overshadowed by Riviera's most extravagant par-3 holes, the subtle Fourteenth is one of the most difficult holes to birdie on the back nine and always plays an important role in the round.

Hole 15: Par 4, 487 Yards
At 443 Yards, and playing into the prevailing winds up the valley, the Fifteenth is the strongest par-4 at Riviera.

Hole 16: Par 3, 166 Yards
Hole 16 is artistic, delicate and dangerous. The bunkers are so high they give you the illusion that the green is really smaller than it is.

Hole 17: Par 5, 590 Yards
The longest hole at Riviera, No.17 plays 580 Yards back into the natural flow of the canyon.

Hole 18: Par 4, 475 Yards
No.18, considered by many to be the finest finishing hole in golf, is defined on the right side by eucalyptus trees and on the left side by a hill.
